SECTION LEADERS 2009

Hello from the band room.  I hope this letter finds you in good health and having a great summer.

I am very excited about next fall!

This letter is to inform you that you have been selected as a section leader.  I will send along a squad list with this letter so that you can start calling you squads and let them know what is expected of them this fall.  I am expecting a lot from you section leaders this fall.  You must have your music memorized by the start of camp.  If you lead by example the kids will follow.  The Drum majors and I will be listening to you play the songs right at the beginning of camp so be prepared!!

Almost every one of you is a senior and you will be a group to be proud of!

Remember to start off a little tough, you can back off a little later, but be firm right off the bat.

The following musicians are section leaders that will help run sectionals.

Marching Band letter 2009

9 07 2009

To:  Members of the North Platte High

        Bulldog Marching Band

From:  Mr. Bradley

Greetings!!  I hope that all of you are having a fantastic summer.  I hate to remind you that school is just around the corner, but it is.  I am very excited about what this marching season has in store for us!  I want to remind you that we will be having Band Camp starting August 3, 2009.

I know that we will have many scheduling problems with football, softball, volleyball, cross country, tennis, cheerleading, and pacers.  I will try and work around them, but I will not be able to on all of them.  Please come to as much as possible.  We won’t care that you are sweating from an athletic practice, some practice is better than none.  As of now the band will be marching 115 members this year and it is imperative that we all know what we are doing.  We are in great need for mallet players, so if you know of any piano players that would like to play call me and give me their phone number and I will call them.  Included in this letter is the squad list for this year.  Squad Leaders,

I would like to have a meeting with you on Thursday July 30th at 9:00 a.m., in the Band room.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday August 3- Friday August 7 8:00-2:00

Monday August 10- Friday August 14 6:00-9:30

The first football game is Friday August 28th,  Parents night!!

.

Please be practicing your music BEFORE August 3rd!  The music is pretty easy, but the marching drill is not!  We will need all the practice time we can get before school starts.  Following is a list of performances this first term.  You will get a complete list for the year on the first day of school.

November Band Parent meeting minutes

25 11 2008

November 3, 2008

Band Parent Meeting

1. Welcome:  The third meeting of the Band Parents was called to order by Vice President Stacy Hansen at 7:05 PM.     President Terry is AWOL. Did you receive permission to be absent? Just kidding, Terry! We missed you.

2. Fundraising

a.     Krispy Crème: 792 dozen sold—$3.00 per dozen profit for students There were 20 dozen extra and people even picked up donuts Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There needs to be a better system to write people’s names down so there is complete information with first name, last name. Mr. Bradley will change the tickets for next year to include the student name who sold the donuts. Mr. Van Velson suggested making a master list. Another suggestion was made to change the master list to include first name and last name.

b.    Discount cards will be coming soon either November 13 or 14.

                                          i.    Last year Cost $7.50 and students received $5.25 per card sold. 2008-09 cost will be $7.50 and there is some difficulty getting students to sell these as elementary schools are selling them as well. The cards are a good money maker.

3. Marching Band Recap: Mr. Bradley received the picture from state. You can look at photos online at www.jolesch.com and click on NSBA 2008.  You can also look at pix on www.mychampionphotos.com as well. Mr. Bradley is pleased with marching band season overall and at State the judges didn’t know where North Platte even was and our band beat Lexington by 8 points and Hastings by 10 points.  Way to go, kids!  We are proud of you! Parents commented on State how the kids had fun and the sportsmanship the band showed not only for themselves but other bands as well.

4.  Upcoming concerts/performances

Mrs. Rosse volunteered to make sure it gets publicized and Sage Merritt is the contact at the newspaper. Mrs. Marsh nominated Dianna Rosse and Mr. VanVelson seconded. All those attending voted in favor. Motion passed. Suggestions were made to send information in to the TV Station, radio stations, Bulletin.  Kids could even volunteer to be on NewsMakers with Jacque Harms. e.     Dec.8th Band Room at 7:00pm

Parents, I know that scheduling is always a difficult task, and we are all busy, but the organization as a whole needs your involvement.  I know we are not in a major trip year, but I also know that we have more than 12-14 parents in our organization.  Please try to attend the meetings to stay informed. Don’t rely on just the minutes.

Thanks,

Terry
