May 21 –JAZZ TRIP TO DENVER @ TBA

2. Participation in class. It is very important that you come to class prepared to work each and every day. This includes being on time, having all the materials needed for class that day, having assignments prepared, and coming with a positive attitude. You will be given a daily grade for your participation.

3. Daily and Weekly Assignments. You will be given regular homework assignments to develop theory, notation, listening and analysis skills. These should be completed in a timely and accurate manner.

4. Playing Quizzes. Playing quizzes will be given on a regular basis to check for the memorization of music for marching band. At least once per term, you will be given a playing quiz to check for knowledge of scales and sight reading ability. Grades will be based on performance and improvement.

5. Extra Credit. You may arrange with me to do additional projects that interest you, such as composing a song, arranging a song, research papers, or preparing a solo or small ensemble for extra credit. The projects must be approved by the teacher IN ADVANCE. Extra Credit may also be earned by performing outside of the regular school activities. You must give me a program from the performance to show that you participated to earn your credit.

Grades are weighted as follows:

Participation in concerts and Participation in class 75%

                Daily assignments 15%

                Playing quizzes 10%

Homework is due when class starts. Any homework not completed at the beginning of class is considered late. Late papers will be lowered one letter grade.

Absence Policy. In the case of absence, you should contact me for any assignments that were missed and to arrange a 15 minute lesson to cover the items missed in rehearsal. If it is a prearranged absence, you MUST contact me before the missed class. If not, you should contact me on the day of return.

Tardy Policy- The first tardy is a freebie. 2nd tardy warning, 3rd tardy 15 minute detention, parent notification, doubled if skipped. 4th tardy 30 minute detention, parent notification, office referral if skipped. 5th offense office referral.

Instrument Check-Out. You may check out instruments from me the first week of class or as the need arises. Instruments checked out to you are YOUR responsibility. Any damage done to the instrument when it is turned back in will be repaired and the repairs will be charged to you similar to book fines.

Music. Printed music is becoming more expensive every year. Each selection usually runs around $60. That, times 20 – 30 pieces for marching band, and 3-4 pieces for each ensemble for each concert and you will understand what a huge expense this is for us. Therefore it is very important that you TAKE CARE of your music. Do not lose, damage, mangle or otherwise deface your music (no ink pens, please). You will be charged the replacement cost for any parts that are lost or destroyed.

Uniforms. Uniforms will be checked out to all students. A record will be kept of the numbers of each of the pieces, and the condition that they are in when they are checked out. Students who already have uniforms out need to turn in the numbers from the coat and pant and note any damage that may be done to them. At the end of the year they will be turned in and fines for any damages or loss will be assessed.

Finally, I am always here to help you. If you have questions, concerns, or would like to schedule some extra time for help on any aspect of the things being covered in class, please feel free to do so.
